Children, the Silent Victims of Human Rights Abuse in Iran
November 1, 2011 |
Iranian journalist, Masih Alinejad, posted the following on her blog and Facebook account
“Take a look at this picture. His name is Artin, and he suffers from human rights abuses in Iran in silence. If I start censoring his picture and voice in order to protect children’s rights, I would do more damage than if I did not share his story at all. Artin is two years-old and the son of two Bahai who are currently imprisoned for trying to teach in Iran’s Bahai Institute, a school that enrolls young Iranians who are otherwise not allowed to study in schools. On October 27th, Artin was able to talk on the phone with his parents.
Artin is just one example of the many children whose parents are political prisoners, who many people tend to forget or don’t pay attention to.
During my recent meeting with Ahmad Shahrid, a UN special reporter on human rights to Iran, I talked to him about these silent victims and asked him to create a separate document for them. ”
