Hillary Clinton: Women ‘Must Be Fearless’

Taking on extremists both abroad and at home who would marginalize women, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called for an “audacious” new activism at Newsweek and The Daily Beast’s third annual Women in the World Summit. “What does it mean to be a woman in the world?” Clinton asked. “It means never giving up. It means getting up, working hard, and putting a country or a community on your back.” Clinton’s rousing keynote capped off a weekend of insights from extraordinary women, from Liberian peace champion and Nobel Peace Prize winner Leymah Gbowee—who wondered why American women weren’t angrier—to IMF chief Christine Lagarde and the inspirational kidnap survivor Jaycee Dugard. The Daily Beast’s Jessica Bennett recaps the most riveting moments. Plus, watch video of all of the events on our Women in the World blog.
